On melodical similarity in versions of a Swedish folk-tune
نویسنده
چکیده
. A set of different versions of the Swedish folk-tune "Fiskeskarsvisan" collected by Moberg i s studied a s regards the question why they a r e felt to be melodically similar. The observations of common elements made in an analysis of the melodies a r e integrated into a rule system by means of which new versions of the folk-tune can be generated. The rule system shows that signaling the constituent structure i s important, and that melodical similarity seems to be closely related to the marking of constituents and the prominence values of the notes. i

Melodic similarity among folk songs: An annotation study on similarity- based categorization in music
In this article we determine the role of different musical features for the human categorization of folk songs into tune families in a large collection of Dutch folk songs. Through an annotation study we investigate the relation between musical features, perceived similarity and human categorization in music. We introduce a newly developed annotation method which is used to create an annotation...
متن کاملLogistics and pretreatment of forest biomass
In large regions of the world, biomass is a very important source of energy. The global bioenergy market based on forest biomass is growing rapidly. About 92 % of the bioenergy in Sweden comes from forests. Biomass from forests is not homogenous. The locations, transport distances, and transport methods, can differ very much and the industries that need biomass as input prefer raw materials wit...
متن کاملWavelet-filtering of Symbolic Music Representations for Folk Tune Segmentation and Classification
The aim of this study is to evaluate a machine-learning method in which symbolic representations of folk songs are segmented and classified into tune families with Haar-wavelet filtering. The method is compared with previously proposed Gestaltbased method. Melodies are represented as discrete symbolic pitch-time signals. We apply the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) with the Haar wavelet at s...
متن کاملAutomatic Tune Family Identification by Musical Sequence Alignment
Musics, like languages and genes, evolve through a process of transmission, variation, and selection. Evolution of musical tune families has been studied qualitatively for over a century, but quantitative analysis has been hampered by an inability to objectively distinguish between musical similarities that are due to chance and those that are due to descent from a common ancestor. Here we prop...
متن کاملString Methods for Folk Tune Genre Classification
In folk song research, string methods have been widely used to retrieve highly similar tunes or to perform tune family classification. In this study, we investigate how various string methods perform on a fundamentally different classification task, which is to classify folk tunes into genres, the genres being the dance types of the tunes. A new data set Dance-9 is therefore introduced. The dif...
